Michael Schoenfeld joins Brunswick Group as a Partner

Brunswick meaningfully adds to capabilities in higher education and medical centers with appointment of deeply experienced practitioner

Brunswick Group, the world’s leading critical issues advisory firm, today announced that Michael Schoenfeld will join as a Partner in Washington, D.C. on August 15, 2022.

Michael will join Brunswick from Duke University, where he has been Vice President for Public Affairs and Government Relations and Chief Communications Officer since 2008. There, he is responsible for communications, advocacy and crisis management and acts as the university’s chief spokesperson. Prior to this, Michael spent 12 years at Vanderbilt University as Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs. He is the Co-Founder of Futurity, a multimedia consortium providing insights from 60 leading global universities and research centers.

At Brunswick, Michael will advise clients on a range of critical issues, with a focus on higher education institutions and academic medical centers.

About Michael Schoenfeld

Michael joins Brunswick from Duke University, where he has been Vice President for Public Affairs and Government Relations and Chief Communications Officer since 2008. There, he is responsible for communications, advocacy and crisis management and acts as the university’s chief spokesperson. Recently, he has been deeply involved in the creation and launch of Duke Kunshan University in China and in Duke's expanding global initiatives. He is also a Visiting Professor of the Practice at the Sanford School of Public Policy, where he teaches an undergraduate course on media and politics.

Previously, Michael spent 12 years at Vanderbilt University as Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs. Before that, he was Senior Vice President for Policy and Public Affairs at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in Washington, D.C. and held a variety of reporting and leadership roles at the Voice of America. He is the Co-Founder of Futurity, a multimedia consortium providing insights from sixty leading global universities and research centers.

Michael has served on the Boards of a number of organizations including the Institute for Public Relations, the Durham Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Transportation Alliance, PBS-NC, PineCone: The Piedmont Council for Traditional Music and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Midsouth), and currently chairs the WUNC-North Carolina Public Radio and Triangle Community Foundation Boards.

Michael received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a master’s degree in public policy from Stony Brook University.
