Brunswick Group, the strategic advisory firm focused on critical issues, today announced that Jonathan Burks has joined as a Partner in its Washington D.C. office focused on public affairs and political issues.
Jon is an experienced and well-respected political advisor with 20 years’ experience at the highest levels of public service. He joins Brunswick from JWB Advisors, an advisory firm he founded focused on providing advice and insights to clients on Washington policy making.
Prior to JWB, Burks served as the chief of staff to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan from 2016 to 2019. He advised the Speaker on all aspects of policy, politics, strategy and communications.
Prior to working for the Speaker, Burks advised Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on budget issues and held a variety of senior policy positions at the House Budget Committee, the Securities & Exchange Commission and the U.S. Treasury. Before that, he spent four years in the White House working for President George W. Bush.

Jon Burks was most recently founder of JWB Advisors, a boutique advisory firm focused on providing insights into Washington policy making.
He is an experienced and very well-respected political advisor with two decades of experience at the highest levels of public service. Prior to JWB Advisors, Burks served as the chief of staff to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in the U.S. Congress from 2016 to 2019, serving as the Speaker’s principal advisor on policy, politics, strategy, communications and management. He was promoted to chief of staff after serving as the Speaker’s national security advisor.
Prior to the Speaker’s office, Burks advised Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on budget matters in 2015. He previously served as policy director of the House Budget Committee from 2010 - 2015; director of legislative affairs at the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2007 - 2008; and chief of staff to the Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs 2005 - 2007.
Early in his career, from 2001 – 2005, Burks served four years at the White House as Vice President Cheney’s staff secretary, associate staff secretary to President Bush, and special assistant to the President for policy in the Chief of Staff’s office.
Burks has a M.A. from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in foreign service from Georgetown University.
