Brunswick strengthens its leadership team in China

Senior Partner Yan Mei appointed Chair of China and Jonathan Dong joins Brunswick Group as a Partner in Beijing.

11 February 2019 - Brunswick Group, a global advisory firm specializing in critical issues and corporate relations, today announced important changes that will further strengthen its team in China.

Yan Mei, Senior Partner, China will take up the role of Chair of China, reflecting the firms continued investment in and growth of its offers, capabilities and leadership in the region. Yan Mei joined Brunswick Group in 2013 after a distinguished career serving major international media companies for more than twenty years. She has played a key role supporting the growth of Brunswick’s Asia business, providing counsel to Chinese companies going global and to multinational organizations looking to invest in China.

As Yan takes the role of Chair of China, Brunswick is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Partner to further strengthen the team in Beijing -- Jonathan Dong -- who starts with the firm today. Jonathan joins from Nestlé China, where he was Head of Corporate Affairs and led their corporate affairs and communications initiatives across the Greater China region. Prior to Nestlé China, Jonathan worked for several major businesses in communications roles including Walmart, Boeing, Siemens and Airbus.

About Yan Mei

Yan Mei joined Brunswick Group in 2013. As Senior Partner, China she has overseen Brunswick’s China business and was an advisor and counselor to senior executives and clients. Yan joined Brunswick from Viacom International Media Networks, where she was Managing Director of Greater China and Chief Representative of Viacom Asia. Previously, Yan held a series of senior positions at Turner International Asia Pacific, News Corp. and its STAR Group. Prior to this, she worked as a journalist for ITN and CNN for more than a decade, winning three Emmy Awards in that time.
Yan is a regular speaker at preeminent events, including the Hamburg Summit and POWER Shanghai. She is a Vice-Chair of the board of The Golden Bridges Foundation, a member of the 2005 Committee, the China Women’s Club, and the Western Returned Scholars Association. Born in Beijing, Yan holds two Master’s degrees in International Relations and Political Science from Columbia University, New York, and a Masters in Advanced Russian Area Studies from Hunter College at the City University of New York. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian Language and Literature from Beijing Normal University.

About Jonathan Dong

Jonathan joins Brunswick after more than 30 years working in the public affairs, corporate communications and media space. He was most recently Head of Corporate Affairs in the Greater China Region for Nestlé, the world’s largest food company. In that role, he led a team across Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China, where he was responsible for the company’s stakeholder engagement, public and media relations, government affairs, public affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, internal communications, and corporate security.

Prior to Nestlé, China, Jonathan worked for Walmart, Boeing, Siemens and Airbus with similar roles overseeing their corporate affairs and communication functions. Jonathan also spent several years working at communication consulting firms and prior to that, was a reporter and editor for the Beijing Review. He started his career as an English teacher at Universities and High Schools.
