Carole Cable & Eira Thomas on diversity in mining and the next generation

Eira Thomas, President and CEO of Lucara Diamonds, sat down with Carole Cable to discuss the key barriers to entry she sees for the next generation and women looking to get into mining, and how she is using her position as a CEO to address those challenges.

"Gen Z have different aspirations. They don’t necessarily aspire to be with a single firm their entire career. They’re looking for experiences. They’re very confident in their education, and they feel that they have choices. It could be that they work for 1, 2, or 5 years with a certain company and then decide to take a complete break and then go do something else. That means employers have to think differently about how they attract talent, how they retain that talent, and how they keep that talent engaged."

Carole interviewed Eira Thomas, President and CEO of Lucara Diamond, about what attracted her to the mining industry as a young professional, what changes she has seen over her career, the key barriers to entry she sees for the next generation and women looking to get into mining, and how she is using her position as a CEO to address those challenges.
