Courtney Chiang Dorman and Michael O’Looney join Brunswick Group as Partners in San Francisco and New York respectively

Brunswick strengthens U.S. Partnership with the appointment of two senior hires.

Brunswick Group, the global advisory firm specializing in critical issues and corporate relations, today announced that Courtney Chiang Dorman and Michael O’Looney will join the Partnership in San Francisco and New York respectively. 

Courtney Chiang Dorman joins Brunswick on April 22 from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where she was Chief Operating Officer and, before that, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Courtney was a member of the firm’s executive management team and was responsible for, among other things, internal and external communications, content and marketing, executive communications, business development, special projects and initiatives, people, and recruitment. Before joining Wilson Sonsini, she was Director of Marketing Communications at Robertson Stephens, the San Francisco-based technology investment bank, and, earlier in her career, also worked for a large global communications agency. At Brunswick, Courtney will advise clients on all areas of strategy, corporate positioning, reputation and crisis, financial and executive communications. 

Michael O’Looney joins Brunswick on May 1 from Elliott Management, where he was Head of Communications and responsible for, among other things, corporate communications, media relations and running communications on a number of high-profile activist campaigns. Prior to this, he was Managing Director and Head of Corporate Communications for Barclays in the Americas and, before that, Managing Director and Head of Corporate Communications for Merrill Lynch. He is also a former Deputy Police Commissioner for the New York City Police Department and an Emmy-nominated television reporter for WCBS, CBS News, and New York 1 News. Michael will advise clients on strategy, financial communications including M&A and activism, crisis, and other critical business and reputational issues.

About Courtney Chiang Dorman:

Prior to joining Brunswick, Courtney was the Chief Operating Officer of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the law firm advising technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide. In this role, she focused on key strategic, cultural, operational, and growth initiatives. In addition to working with the firm’s executive leadership team on developing and implementing firm-wide strategic and operational priorities, she was responsible for aligning, building, and managing all operational functions within the firm. She also acted as firm spokesperson, leading all internal and external communications, including crisis management.  

Courtney was part of Wilson Sonsini’s executive leadership team for nearly 17 years. She started as the firm’s first Chief Marketing Officer in 2002, responsible for building and managing the marketing, communications, and business development functions globally before expanding into a broader operations and strategy role in 2005. 

Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini, Courtney was a principal at the technology investment bank Robertson Stephens where she oversaw the marketing communications function globally. Early in her career she was a vice president at a large, global communications firm where she worked primarily with professional services organizations.

About Michael O’Looney:

Michael O'Looney is Head of Communications for the hedge fund, Elliott Management, and has global experience in the financial services industry and in crisis management, corporate reputation, media relations, activist campaigns, and advising CEOs and senior leadership teams. Previously, he was Managing Director and Head of Corporate Communications at Barclays in the Americas and, prior to that, Managing Director and Head of Corporate Communications for Merrill Lynch. 

Michael is also a former Deputy Police Commissioner for the New York City Police Department where he served as the NYPD’s chief spokesperson and was a senior advisor to the Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. He was inducted into the NYPD’s Honor Legion in 2003. Before that, Michael worked in broadcast journalism. He was an Emmy-nominated television reporter and anchor for CBS News, WCBS, and New York 1 News covering domestic and international news. He also worked at CNBC and the Financial News Network. 

Michael is a graduate of Marist College, and currently serves on the Advisory Board for Marist College’s School of Communication and the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship at Columbia University.
