Brunswick strengthens its management capability in Europe with the appointment of Maria Rankka, former Chief Executive Officer of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
(Stockholm) August 2018 – Brunswick Group, a global advisory firm specialising in critical issues and corporate relations, announced today that Maria Rankka has been appointed Stockholm Office Head. Maria will start at the firm in November.
Maria joins Brunswick from the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce where she was CEO for eight years. Under her leadership, the Chamber became one of Sweden’s leading business organizations and in her role, Maria led the Chamber’s work with business, government and other international organizations. Prior to this, she was CEO of Swedish think tank Timbro, a partner at the public relations firm Prime and served as a speech writer to Carl Bildt, Sweden’s former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Maria serves on the board of directors of Internationella Engelska Skolan and Pop Hose Sweden AB and is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Maria Rankka joins Brunswick from the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce where she is Chief Executive Officer. She joined the Chamber in 2010, and under her tenure, it has become one of the most preeminent business organizations in Sweden. In her role, she has championed the concept of Global Cities and collaborated with other international organizations and think tanks including U.S. think tank the Brookings Institution and its Global Cities Initiative. Maria helped launch the joint business council between Saudi Arabia and Sweden.
Maria is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and a columnist for Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. She serves on the board of directors of Internationella Engelska Skolan and Pop Hose Sweden AB. Maria is also a member of the Trilateral Commission.
Before joining the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Maria was the CEO of free market think tank Timbro, after joining the organization in 2005 as a Deputy Director. From 1999 to 2004, Maria was a Consultant and Partner at the public relations firm Prime. Prior to that, she was a speech writer to Carl Bildt, Sweden’s former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
Maria completed Stanford Executive Program at Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2013 and holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Uppsala University.
