Pieter brings extensive knowledge of European public and corporate affairs. Prior to joining Brunswick in 2022 he spent five years as the Netherlands’ Ambassador in Paris after having served for six years as Permanent Representative/Ambassador to the EU in Brussels. He played a central role in the EU’s legislative and diplomatic processes during these years, dealing with the banking and migration crisis, notably during the Netherlands Presidency of the EU in 2016, liaising directly with the Netherlands Prime Minister, other Ministers and EU institutions while leading a large administration in Brussels.
Prior to this, Pieter served in various roles at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as Director-General for Political Affairs, as a Director for European Integration and as Private Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Earlier in his career, he served as Counsellor for Political-Military Affairs in the Embassy in Washington D.C. and as Commercial Secretary at the Embassy in Ankara.
Pieter received a Masters in International Law from the University of Amsterdam and a Masters in International Affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
