Lanhee Chen rejoins Brunswick Group as a Partner

Leading U.S. public policy expert and political commentator Lanhee Chen rejoins the firm.

Brunswick Group, the world’s leading critical issues advisory firm, today announced that Lanhee Chen has rejoined the firm as a Partner in San Francisco.

Lanhee is a leading U.S. public policy expert and political commentator. He is the David and Diane Steffy Fellow in American Public Policy Studies at the Hoover Institution and Director of Domestic Policy Studies and Lecturer in the Public Policy Program at Stanford University. Lanhee has served in senior roles in U.S. presidential administrations and advised four Republican presidential campaigns, including as Policy Director of Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign.

Lanhee returns to Brunswick having been a Senior Advisor from 2018 to 2021. As a Partner, he will advise U.S. and international clients on public affairs and policy issues, with a particular focus on the Healthcare and Life Sciences and Technology, Media and Telecommunications sectors.

About Lanhee Chen

Lanhee is the David and Diane Steffy Fellow in American Public Policy Studies at the Hoover Institution and Director of Domestic Policy Studies and Lecturer in the Public Policy Program at Stanford University.

Lanhee served in a senior role in the George W. Bush administration and advised four Republican presidential campaigns. He was Policy Director of Senator Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign and chief policy advisor; advised Senator Marco Rubio on his 2016 presidential bid; served as Domestic Policy Director of Romney's 2008 campaign; and was a Health Policy Advisor to President Bush in his 2004 re-election campaign. From 2014 to 2018, Lanhee was nominated by President Obama and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve on the Social Security Advisory Board. Earlier in his career, he was a business litigator at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. Lanhee was a Senior Advisor at Brunswick from 2018 to 2021. In 2022, he ran unsuccessfully for California State Controller, but won more votes in the general election than any other Republican candidate in America.

Lanhee is a member of the Boards of Directors of El Camino Health, the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity (FREOPP) and the Healthcare Consumer Rights Foundation. He earned a Ph.D. and an A.M. in political science from Harvard University, his J.D. from Harvard Law School and an A.B. in government from Harvard College.
