Brunswick Group, the world’s leading critical issues advisory firm, today announced that Bernardino Leon has joined as a Senior Advisor based in Madrid.
Bernardino is a highly-regarded diplomat and politician, and a leading expert in Southern European and Arab political affairs. Most recently, he was Director General of the Emirates Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and, prior to that, was a United Nations Special Representative in Libya. He served as the European Union Special Representative to the Southern Mediterranean, Secretary General in the office of the Spanish Prime Minister and Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
At Brunswick, Bernardino will advise clients on a range of corporate affairs and geopolitical issues, helping to support the continued growth of the firm in the region.

Bernardino most recently served as Director General of the Emirates Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, based in Abu Dhabi. Previously, he was a United Nations Special Representative in Libya. He served as the European Union Special Representative to the Southern Mediterranean, Secretary General in the office of the Spanish Prime Minister and Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Earlier in his career, Bernardino worked in the Spanish Embassy in Liberia, Algeria and Greece as a Diplomat and for the European Union’s Middle East Peace Process Team as a Special Advisor. Bernardino has received 23 decorations from different States, including the French Legion d’Honneur.
Bernardino holds BAs in Law from the Universidad de Málaga Law School and in Philosophy from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. He holds MAs in International Human Rights Law from Oxford University and in Peace, Security and Defense from IU Gutierrez Mellado, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Diplomacy and International Relations from CEI-Barcelona University.
