AGMs as a means to sustainable change, with Catherine Howarth, CEO, ShareAction

With economic downturns and pandemic preparedness putting governments under strain, Catherine Howarth, CEO of ShareAction, believes that it is important for those that finance companies in the real economy to push for and incentive an ambitious focus on sustainability challenges and encourage companies to make bold, transitional steps. With AGM season looming and ESG on the minds of investors, Catherine discusses how the pandemic has changed these traditional in-person meetings and how modern AGMs could adapt in our era of digitisation and stakeholder capitalism without losing their “magic.”

Catherine joined ShareAction as Chief Executive in 2008. ShareAction coordinates civil society activism to promote responsible investment across Europe. She is a board member of the Scott Trust, owner of The Guardian, serving on the Scott Trust’s investment committee. She also serves on HM Treasury’s Asset Management Taskforce. She was a Member Nominated Trustee of The Pensions Trust for five years until Spring 2013. Catherine was recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2014.
