Ulrich has been in German and European politics for more than 30 years, in varying capacities.

He started his career in journalism in 1990, covering the final months of the GDR—a period that also marked the beginning of Angela Merkel’s entry into politics as the deputy spokeswoman of the first democratically elected government. In the following 16 years, Ulrich worked as a political correspondent and bureau chief for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Berliner Zeitung, Der Spiegel and Bild am Sonntag. In 2006 , he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt) as the advisor and speechwriter to the Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who has served as Germany’s Federal President since 2017.

Uli joined Brunswick’s Berlin office in 2012 as a Partner. His ambition, and expertise, is in bridging public and corporate interests, fostering win-win outcomes through a deep understanding of diverse stakeholder groups. Since 2023, he has served as a Senior Partner, offering strategic advice to a range of CEOs.

He graduated from the University of Munich, with a degree in political science and history, and is author of several political books.
