James Dray


James specializes in helping multinational companies with integrated campaigns across public affairs, public relations, labour relations, and crisis with a particular expertise in Africa. He is a member of the Energy and Resources and Financial Institutions groups and has worked in both the London and Johannesburg offices.

James joined Brunswick after earning a Doctorate as a Commonwealth Scholar at Oxford University where he also taught Politics. His Doctorate, which made use of advanced econometric analysis to study political behaviour across Sub-Saharan Africa, was awarded the Political Studies Association prize for the best thesis on elections, electoral systems and representation. He is a former President of the Oxford Union and World Universities Debating Champion.

At Brunswick James has worked on a number of major crisis projects for mining companies as well as mergers and acquisitions, asset and company sales, IPO’s, a delisting, a proxy fight, and public affairs campaigns including campaigns to build trust between business and government in Africa. His clients have included Prudential, Antofagasta, AngloGold Ashanti, Lonmin, Access Bank of Nigeria, MTN and the Royal Mail.
