He most recently served as Vice President for University Relations at Cornell University, where for 11 years he led the university’s communications and government and community relations efforts. During his tenure, he served as the university’s spokesperson, overseeing Cornell’s internal and external communications strategies and managing relationships with federal, state, and local policymakers and key stakeholders.
Prior to Cornell, Joel served as Chief Executive Officer and General Manager at Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates, the former Washington D.C. based public affairs and lobbying firm, where he established himself as one of Washington’s premier coalition practitioners, managing numerous successful advocacy campaigns for clients across a variety of sectors, including energy, trade, transportation, and higher education. Joel joined the firm in 1993, serving in increasingly senior positions during his 21 years there.
Joel advises Brunswick’s Foundations, Education & Global Health and other clients on a range of matters, including public affairs, issues and reputation management, profile raising, crisis, media relations, and stakeholder engagement. He is a cum laude graduate of Yale University with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.
