Hays will become a partner in the NY office focusing on deepening the firm’s relationships with C-suite executives.
Brunswick Group, a leading corporate communications partnership, announced today that Laurie Hays, formerly senior executive editor of Bloomberg News and one of the top business news executives in the industry, has joined the firm as a partner. Based in the firm’s New York office, Ms. Hays will become a senior advisor to C-suite executives and deepen the firm’s relationships with senior business leaders, drawing on her long-time experience as a leading financial journalist, and will counsel clients on a range of corporate matters.
“The addition of a senior level journalist with Laurie’s experience is exciting for Brunswick as we continue to forge deep relationships with the world’s most important business leaders,” said Susan Gilchrist, Group Chief Executive Officer. “During her more than three decades in journalism, Laurie has covered some of the most complex and critical business developments of our time. Her unique experience and insight will be a real asset to Brunswick and our clients.”
Steve Lipin, US Senior Partner, said: “Laurie has long been known as one of the most talented, well-respected journalists in the business media who has overseen a global newsroom, and she brings to Brunswick her deep knowledge and relationships with many international companies and their business and communications leaders. She has been a colleague at The Wall Street Journal and a friend for twenty years, and I am thrilled to welcome her to Brunswick.”
On her addition to the firm, Ms. Hays said:
“I couldn’t be happier to be joining Brunswick. Having worked with the firm for years on the other side as a journalist, I have deep admiration for Brunswick’s global reach, leadership skills and ability to help companies strategize and manage through tough situations and transformative deals,” Ms. Hays said. “After 30 wonderful years as a financial journalist at two of the best news organizations in the world, it is exciting to have the chance to foster greater understanding and communication from a different perspective.”
Ms. Hays draws on more than three decades of experience as a journalist, most recently as senior executive editor for beat reporting at Bloomberg News, where she managed 1,100 global reporting editors and reporters covering markets, government, international affairs, companies, health, science, legal and education. Prior to joining Bloomberg in 2008, Ms. Hays held a number of senior editorial and reporting positions at The Wall Street Journal, including national news editor, deputy managing editor for investigative projects and technology editor. She also helped lead the Journal’s coverage of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Earlier in her tenure at the Journal, Ms. Hays was a Moscow-based foreign correspondent, where she covered the fall of communism and its aftermath from 1990-1993. As an editor, Ms. Hays led reporting coverage that was awarded for journalism honors including the Pulitzer Prize, the Gerald Loeb Awards for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism, and the Asia Society’s Osborn Elliot Prize for Excellence in Journalism. Ms. Hays is a board member of the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship and the Economic Club of New York, and she is a judge for the Gerald Loeb Awards. Ms. Hays attended Harvard University.
