After graduating from the École Normale Supérieure and the École Nationale d'Administration (ENA), Laurent was appointed to the Inspection des Finances from 1985 to 1989. He then joined Rhône-Poulenc for four years to head up Strategy & Planning in the Chemicals Division. Starting in 1987, he managed the regional newspaper, Provençal in Marseille for Groupe Hachette. He later returned to the Inspection des Finances from 1992 to 1993 before joining the Banque Pallas-Stern as Head of Investment Banking. In 1995 he joined Canal+ as Finance Director. Laurent then became Director of International Operations and also managed the football team Paris Saint Germain from 1999 to 2003.
Since joining Brunswick, Laurent has advised several companies on structuring transactions, in particular APRR and the Olympique Lyonnais IPOs, Sanofi-Synthélabo on the acquisition of Aventis, Starwood on the acquisition of Groupe Taittinger, CGG on Veritas, Saint-Gobain for BPB, Suez on its merger with GDF and Rodia on its acquisition by Solvay. He also advised PSA Peugeot Citroen, Goodyear or Texas Instruments in restructuring, HSBC, Bayer and UBS on crisis.
