Whilst the campaigns for the Federal Election in September are getting underway, the parties avoid understandable and clear conclusions regarding the future of health policy.
The German healthcare system is offering high standards but an ageing society, medical progress and migration are putting it under increasing stress. Politicians have been debating about a number of tools to deal with these challenges. However, an increase of costs will be inevitable. A proper information of patients about these costs and more competition within the system could be helpful. Politicians and representatives of the public health sector are fighting against that although this might be the right moment as there is an increasing fear of an inadequate medical support and of a loss of humanity.
