Brunswick Group announces new MerchantCantos Chief Executive Officer

Matt Shepherd-Smith named Chief Executive Officer of MerchantCantos.

Brunswick Group today named Matt Shepherd-Smith as Chief Executive Officer of MerchantCantos, a leading integrated creative communications agency and part of Brunswick Group. Matt, who joined Brunswick Group as Executive Chair of MerchantCantos two years ago, took on the additional role of interim Chief Executive Officer in January of this year.

Matt will continue to drive the growth and innovation of MerchantCantos, which has been ranked as the number one corporate production company in the UK for the last two years and the UK’s fourth biggest design agency. With over 25 years’ experience within creative agencies, Matt will help drive MerchantCantos’ purpose to bring creativity to business-critical communications, supported by an international team across offices in Berlin, Dubai, Hong Kong, New York and San Francisco.

About Matt Shepherd-Smith

Matt Shepherd-Smith joined Brunswick Group in January 2016 as Executive Chair for MerchantCantos. Matt has significant experience in brands and advertising, most recently as Brand and Communications Director at Blinkbox, the digital entertainment company previously owned by Tesco. Following the acquisition, Matt became Advertising Director at Tesco and led the supermarket’s 2014 Christmas communications campaign.

He began his advertising career at Lintas, followed by Leo Burnett and then Bates Dorland, before joining TBWA in 1998. He spent 11 years helping it to become one of the UK’s most awarded creative agencies with clients including adidas, Apple, Sony PlayStation, Mars, John Smith’s and Nissan. He was appointed CEO of the agency in 2006. He has also run his own consultancy specializing in brand strategy and design.
