Brunswick appoints 14 new partners

Brunswick Group, a leading corporate communications partnership, is delighted to announce that, following an extensive and thorough process, we have asked 14 Directors to join the Partnership this year.

Brunswick Group, a leading corporate communications partnership, is delighted to announce that, following an extensive and thorough process, we have asked 14 Directors to join the Partnership this year.  They represent six of our offices and signify our cross-border strength.  The number alone indicates the depth of talent here.  These individuals exemplify our unique combinations of experience with a blend of public affairs and sector and specialist expertise across our international network.

Alastair Morton, Blaise Projects London

Alastair works with clients to articulate their corporate purpose and their role in society. He works for Blaise Projects, the part of Brunswick that focuses on the role of business in society.

Alastair joined Brunswick in 2012 from the advertising agency JWT, where he founded the London unit of JWT Ethos, a social change and corporate social responsibility practice. He also launched The Future Quotient report, which he co-authored with John Elkington.

Alastair advises clients across sectors and continents, including a UK energy company, pan-European retailer, an Asian bank and global pharmaceutical and communications businesses. All his clients share an ambition to promote the positive role that business plays in society.

Brian Buckley, London

Brian is a member of the financial institutions group, advising clients on a range of financial communication and reputational matters, including M&A, capital markets transactions, investor activism, restructuring and international profile-raising.

Brian joined Brunswick in 2012 from Morgan Stanley, where he worked in corporate communications, covering the bank’s investment banking and capital markets businesses in EMEA. Before joining Morgan Stanley, Brian was at Moorgate Group in London and latterly at Lloyds Banking Group, where he spent three years working on a variety of communications projects related to the expansion of the bank’s wholesale markets business and, ultimately, the onset of the financial crisis. Brian began his career at the Chicago Board of Trade and has worked and lived in both the US and Canada.

He has advised global companies including BNP Paribas, Intercontinental Exchange and Christie’s International. Brian holds degrees in business and politics from Dublin Institute of Technology and Queen’s University, Belfast.

Charlie Potter, London

Charlie has advised a broad range of media, professional services, consumer and private clients on various communications issues in the context of litigation, regulatory disputes, mergers and corporate crises.

Charlie joined Brunswick in June 2012 from his practice as a barrister at Blackstone Chambers, where he specialized in public / administrative and commercial law, in particular the areas of broadcasting and media regulation. In the course of his practice, Charlie acted for Ofcom and other statutory regulators in various legal matters, and advised commercial clients on a range of sensitive regulatory issues. Before practicing as a barrister, Charlie spent four years at the BBC, first as a production trainee and then as a broadcast journalist at the flagship television news and current affairs program, 'Newsnight'. Charlie graduated from Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, in 2001 with a first class degree in Modern Languages. He gained his postgraduate degree in law with distinction at City University in 2006.

Erik Hotmire, Washington, DC.

Erik advises financial institutions and corporations on crisis, litigation, corporate reputation and regulatory matters with a focus on strategic counsel, media handling and public affairs.

Prior to joining Brunswick, Erik served as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Special Assistant to the President and White House spokesman, Director at public affairs firm Clark & Weinstock, and US Senate Communications Director. He began his career as a radio and television journalist. Erik is a member of the Board of Visitors of the Fund for American Studies’ Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems and serves on the Board of Directors of the German American Heritage Foundation.

Erik has counseled clients around the globe including Barclays, BNP Paribas, Santander, Bank of America, The Clearing House, Standard Chartered, Moody’s, Facebook, Microsoft, the Semiconductor Industry Association, Lending Club and several alternative investment firms.

Ginny Wilmerding, Hong Kong

Ginny advises Asian and multinational clients on financial and corporate communications, transactions, crisis, strategic positioning and stakeholder engagement. Ginny speaks Mandarin and has spent over half of her business career in Hong Kong and China, joining Brunswick in 2010.

Her prior experience includes business development roles for Hutchison Whampoa and AT&T in Hong Kong and Shanghai and heading corporate affairs for US private equity-backed Internet services companies. Ginny published a business advice book for women in 2006 (Wiley) and currently sits on an advisory council for The Women's Foundation's board diversity initiatives in Hong Kong; she has been a Board Trustee of Princeton-in-Asia since 1997. She has a particular interest in corporate governance and family business issues. Ginny holds a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Princeton.

Ginny has counseled companies in sectors including private equity, technology, media and telecoms, and luxury retail, and she has advised on a number of high profile international IPOs and cross-border transactions including the IPOs of Alibaba Group and Chow Tai Fook, CP Group and ITOCHU’s investment into CITIC Ltd, as well as Bain Capital’s sale of Domino’s Pizza Japan to Domino’s Australia.

Giovanna Falbo, New York

Giovanna advises clients on a wide variety of high-profile communications matters, with a specialization in litigation, crisis and restructuring mandates.

Prior to joining Brunswick in 2006, Giovanna worked at Sitrick And Company and Hill & Knowlton, where she counseled companies in the development of their crisis preparedness skills and advised companies before, during and upon emergence from bankruptcy.

Giovanna has worked on a number of significant transactions, including the mergers of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines and CVS and Caremark.  Other notable client work includes providing strategic advice and internal communications support to Delta for the post-merger integration of Northwest and litigation communications support for BP.

Jeff Sindone at MerchantCantos, New York

Jeff is Partner for MerchantCantos in New York, Brunswick’s creative communications agency.  He helps global companies and organizations address complex multi-media communications and business challenges.

Before joining MerchantCantos, Jeff was President of Forum Media, the multimedia division of Forum Strategies & Communications, a strategic communications and outreach firm based in New York City. In this role Jeff was responsible for planning and executing multimedia strategies using cutting-edge media concepts and new media tools.  Jeff began his career in broadcast news with the Fox News organization in Washington DC where he held numerous editorial positions, from field production to working on the assignment desk. In 1993 he joined Medialink Worldwide and was responsible for refining the company’s media relations and monitoring capabilities.  Jeff is a graduate of the George Washington University and holds a Masters degree in communications from The New School in New York City.

Justin Dini, New York

A former journalist and political speechwriter, Justin advises clients around critical corporate reputation issues and special situations including corporate restructurings, crisis and litigation communications, and transactions. Justin has a particular focus on the global technology, media and telecoms (TMT) sector, and he works with clients across the TMT industry.

Justin joined Brunswick in 2007. Previously, he worked as a speechwriter for former New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, who oversaw the $100 billion New York City pension fund. Justin spent nearly a decade as a business and financial journalist covering the media industry and Wall Street. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Institutional Investor, TheStreet.com, The New York Observer, and Adweek.

Justin’s client work has included advising Alibaba Group on its initial public offering, the largest in history; Hawker Beechcraft on its prearranged Chapter 11 filing; Liberty Global’s acquisition of Virgin Media; Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., on its successful Chapter 11 restructuring; and EMI Group on its emergence from administration and its subsequent sale. Linus Turner, Brussels

Linus advises clients across sectors such as energy, infrastructure, transport and technology on interaction with EU policy makers, the media and other stakeholders in Brussels and across Europe. He has extensive experience in international public affairs and policy, crisis communications, issues management and corporate communications.

Monika Driscoll, New York

Monika advises clients on a wide variety of critical issues, including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, shareholder activism, as well as other capital markets advisory and corporate reputation work.

Prior to joining Brunswick in 2007, she was in equity research and investment banking, including as an Associate Director at Bear Stearns where she covered the retail sector on an Institutional Investor -ranked team in New York.

Patrick Eastwood at MerchantCantos, Hong Kong

Patrick is Partner for MerchantCantos in Hong Kong, Brunswick’s creative communications agency.  He advises multi-national and Chinese companies on how to communicate more effectively through visual communications.

Before joining MerchantCantos, Patrick was a board director of Fishburn (part of AMV BBDO) where he led the branding and design part of the business advising clients including Barclays, Nokia Siemens Networks, Prudential, SABMiller and Standard Chartered Bank. Prior to this he was managing director of one of Europe’s leading design agencies, Omnicom-owned Pauffley, where he advised clients on annual reports, branding, digital and employee engagement. His clients included Accenture, BP, London Business School and NASDAQ Europe.

Stuart Hudson, London

Stuart draws on his background in politics and government to help companies develop and execute campaigns on business-critical issues.

Before joining Brunswick in 2010, he served as a Special Adviser at 10 Downing Street, and over the years has worked on a wide range of local and national political campaigns.

He has also served as Head of Government Affairs at Ofgem, the regulator of the gas and electricity industries in Britain. He trained in competition policy at the Office of Fair Trading and worked on several high profile anti-trust investigations in the energy sector.

Today Stuart develops corporate campaigns on issues from mergers and acquisitions to regulatory investigations.  He works across sectors including financial services, utilities, industrials and healthcare.  He also has wide experience of preparing ministers and senior executives for giving evidence to parliamentary select committees.

Tim May at MerchantCantos, London

Tim is Partner - Film for MerchantCantos, Brunswick’s creative communications agency.

He is responsible for overseeing the Film department’s creative output and has more than 20 years’ experience in all aspects of video communications consultancy, content creation and delivery.

Tim started his career at the BBC, producing and directing documentaries for the arts series Arena before moving on to write, produce and direct award-winning films for corporate clients all over the world.

Tim’s expertise includes investor, brand and employee communications. He has worked with the CEO’s of Anglo American and Shire on a number of strategic announcements and initiatives, and with corporate communications directors and their teams across the FTSE 100.

Will Carnwath, Singapore

Will focuses on corporate reputation, investor relations and crisis.

He is a former senior investment banker, with over 10 years in corporate finance at Piper Jaffray and Nomura, where he focused on healthcare and industrials in the investment banking group.   Before moving to Singapore to help establish the office, Will spent just under three years as Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Brunswick in London, working with him on the largest and highest profile international clients and deals.

He has worked on over 70 transactions including cross-border and international public company M&A, IPOs and secondary fundraisings. Prior to joining the City, Will graduated from St. Andrews University with a degree in physiology.
